Casa Guatemala can't survive without the help of volunteers like you. When you volunteer, you’ll help change the lives of more than 300 children in Guatemala. You’ll also meet new people, experience things you never thought possible, and make memories that will last a lifetime.

Volunteering at Casa Guatemala is a fantastic experience, but it is not without its difficulties. To learn more about the experience, please visit our FAQs.

This year, we have reopened our short term volunteer program for teams and individuals looking to make an impact at Casa Guatemala while staying at our Hotel Backpackers. This program includes accommodation in our private volunteer dorm, breakfasts and dinners at our restaurant, transportation via boat to and from Casa Guatemala everyday and lunch daily with the children. The cost is $500 per week.

As a short term volunteer, you will be able to help out with activities with the children, gym classes, cooking and serving meals, or in the classrooms. If you are coming as a group, we will customize a project for you so you can fundraise before you come and complete it while you are here! Individuals wanting to also fundraise before their trip are welcome to do so as we always have lots of projects to work on big and small.

As we maneuver through Guatemalan Covid regulations, the increase of Covid cases throughout the country, and our school still not being able to function at normal capacity, we have decided to hold off on opening our long term volunteer program until February of 2023.

However, our new program will have specific placements available and we will begin to recruit applicants in the fall of 2022. If you’re interested in joining us in the future, you can start the application process by filling out the form below. You can also sign up for our newsletter to receive updates about the exciting changes that are coming next year.

Long term volunteers must stay for at least three (3) months, be at least twenty-four (24) years old, and have a basic grasp of conversational Spanish. Long term volunteers live on-site at Casa Guatemala in a special living area exclusively for volunteers.

Responsibilities for long term volunteers include activities that require consistency and more direct relationships with children. These include teaching positions (English, art, physical education, and more) as well as administrative positions at Casa Guatemala.
