Why are children always named after their father?
Re: Why are children always named after their father?
It depends though if they want their kids to be known as "junior", so they will have the complete father's name plus "junior". As for the surname, that's really given by default, so it shouldn't be questioned.

The only possible reason I can think about is our society is patriarchal in nature, and patriarchal society gives importance to the father's lineage. However, in my home country, women are free to keep their own names and do not have to necessarily adopt the husband's name. Some women prefer to keep their husband's name as well as their father's name.
