I don't think Google can help you in learning Chinese Mandarin because the intonation makes the difference. Just like the Thai language, they speak with the proper intonation to drive home the meaning. You couldn't get the right meaning of the word if you pronounce it wrongly.
I'm currently trying to learn Mandarin now and it's very true about how you pronounce the words. To me, it's one of the hardest languages to learn. I agree with you that it is better to learn with a native speaker.
