Project Ix-Canaan is not about micro-managing the local community.
Our mission values are empowerment through education and opportunity, delivered through respectful collaboration with the people of El Remate and surrounding villages.

We believe that intercultural exchange is an experience that benefits everybody, and the wonderful volunteers who have come from all around the world over the years have proven us right time and time again.

Some of the brilliant initiatives and skills that international volunteers have brought to share with the people of El Remate over the years include:

Gender and empowerment workshops
Permaculture and gardening help
English and French lessons
Music, self-expression and instilling in the children how important and valuable they are (frequently the only literate member of the household is a child)
Ecological workshops such as crafts and recycled paper
Screenings of movies
Art and crafts
A full inventory of the pharmacy and deep clean of the clinic
Diabetes workshops and wellbaby clinics
Nurses
Doctors
Physiotherapists
Acupuncture therapists
Construction workers
Painters
Electricians
PR and communications
Childcare specialists
